If I get the 120 Amp 13970RK-A Alternator Kit on my 2001 BMW Z3 3.0L with alternator SG9B029 (90 amp), will I get 120 Amps?

Question: If I get the 120 Amp 13970RK-A Alternator Kit on my 2001 BMW Z3 3.0L with alternator SG9B029 (90 amp), will I get 120 Amps?

Answer:

Hi! You would need to have an upgraded Stator and Rotor windings to achieve higher amperage.  The voltage regulator between the 2 options (90 amp and 120 amp) functions the same and is the same; regulators only function to keep voltage stable within specs and do not themselves produce amperage (current) .. If you see kits for these two alternators;

90 Amp Valeo SG9B029 13971RK-A

and

120 Amp Valeo SG12B029 13970RK-A

 you will notice that the only difference is the alternators reference.  The kit has the same parts. We bundle kits by alternator #s and not by included parts to make them easier to find in our catalog.

The best option to achieve higher amperage would be to outfit the 120 Amp alternator in full on it (check what modifications may needed: different belt, 'big 3' etc..)

Thanks for checking with us!
